Your Wedding Season Skincare Checklist
Whether you’re a bride to be or an honoured guest, there’s no denying that summer is the busy season when it comes to nuptials (and the parties that come along with them!). Weddings and extra socializing in the summer is as fun as it gets, but often comes along with parched, dehydrated skin (hello, champagne), too much sun exposure and fatigue from staying on the dance floor until the wee hours. Luckily, my main focus at Sound Skincare this season is prevention and protection! While I always recommend starting your pre-bridal skincare routine at least 6 months in advance, there are many ways to prep your skin (gently) closer to the big day. See below for my top tips for wedding season skincare!
1. Nourish Your Skin From The Inside Out
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. As the outside temperatures climb, so does our body’s need for hydration. Try to drink plenty of water (add lemon for extra detox) daily in the months leading up to the wedding - and don’t forget to supplement with a high quality collagen (try my Bend Beauty Marine Collagen + Co Factors). Collagen is an awesome building block for helping your skin stay plump, hydrated and nourished all summer long (good balance for the casual beverages summer tends to invite). Like we talked about last month, your diet is a huge key to success when it comes to the health and vitality of your skin. Ensure you’re prepping for wedding season by inviting in more whole, veg, fermented foods and a good probiotic/omega into your diet.
2. Establish A Routine
Now that you’re prepping your skin from the inside out, your next step is to schedule a skin consultation with me! I’ll take the time to assess your skin and make recommendations for treatment and products that will be tailored to your specific needs. I always suggest to not start a brand new intensive routine too close to the wedding date (especially no peels!). For many clients, I take a minimal approach if we are 1-4 weeks out by sticking with hydrating, brightening and soothing treatments. My number one bridal skincare tip is to schedule a series of LED sessions with me leading up to the day; to stop acne bacteria in its tracks and stimulate extra collagen for that glow. I may also suggest to get in the habit of doing facial Gua Sha at home (pick up your Jade tool at the studio!) to help detoxify the skin and reduce puffiness. I can advise you on starting a skincare routine that makes sense for your lifestyle (and point you in the direction of the most effective cleansing and hydrating products for you!). Lastly, I’m here to remind you that it’s equally important to care for your nervous system - stress can take a huge toll on our skin, so make sure you are getting plenty of rest along with carving out some much needed time for self care!
3. Prep With A Customized Facial
Renew your skin with a completely bespoke treatment, and ask me about incorporating Gua Sha into your session. This beautifully restoring treatment focuses on an ancient Chinese treatment that uses a gentle scraping technique to facilitate lymphatic drainage in the face and neck, which detoxifies and sculpts for a natural lift and glow. Paired with customized enzymes, masks and serums from my go-to product line, Rhonda Allison, the skin will be infused with deep hydration and vitamins for added nourishment before or after your big day. As with any of my treatments, I’ll customize the treatment completely for your individual skin needs and concerns. And finally, while maybe not quite as important as your vows, I consider a strong SPF to be a key ingredient in the big day!
